They call themselves space pirates? That's odd. They're more funny than scary. They just hijacked someone else's spaceship and crashed it.
Now, to get back to their constellation, they need to find a wish-fulfilment crystal. Let's help the poor souls, and they promise to give us the opportunity to make a wish. But getting to the intergalactic laboratory is not so easy.
